The Ziller Valley Krapfen Festival

Last updated on April 8th, 2020 at 06:49 am

The Ziller Valley ‘Krapfen’ – a kind of deep-fried turnover – is a local speciality which has become a cult culinary delicacy.

Later this month the Bundesmusikkapelle Hippach will be hosting the Zillertal Krapfen Festival in Schwendau for the 13th time.

The Krapfenfest is already a hit among guests and locals and has made a name for itself among the numerous summer events in the Zillertal. On 18 August 2019 it will be time again to eat doughnuts in the centre of the village of Schwendau!

Sweet and spicy

At this festival everything revolves around the Ziller valley Krapfen. Visitors can choose between sweet, filled with cabbage or the original Krapfen in the village centre of Schwendau.

Tasty grilled dishes, the famous Melchermuas (like a ‘Kaiserschmarrn’ but without eggs) and homemade cakes are also worth a taste. The experts at the Schwendau distillery will be offering samples and insight into the distillery.

Colourful programme with plenty of tradition

There will be sessions from local folk music bands throughout the day and into the early evening.

At 10.30 the Bundesmusikkapelle Hippach will march from the village centre of Hippach via Lindenstraße to the village centre of Schwendau.

The band ECHT BÖHMISCH will follow from 11.00 and The Goldrieder from East Tyrol will be playing from 15.30. Younger visitors can look forward to fun and entertainment at the fire station in Schwendau.

The festival is held no matter what the weather and the Bundesmusikkapelle Hippach is looking forward to plenty of visitors in traditional costume. Entrance is of course free!
