The banks of the Neusiedler See in the east of Austria bustle with life in the high summer.
People meet up with friends at the lidos. Practically every location on the lake has its own outdoor swimming area. Visitors can linger as long as they wish on the sunbathing lawns, under trees, or on the pebble or sandy beaches.
There are playgrounds and volleyball courts as well as the possibility to rent pedal boats, rowing boats, surfboards or SUP boards. Families appreciate the children’s areas with their own pools, most of which are equipped with slides.
And the lake’s water is comfortably warm for a dip in between all of that activity or relaxation. The temperature in Austria’s only steppe lake rises to a level of 27 degrees in midsummer – helped by the fact that its shallow depth is nowhere more than two metres.
