The Salzburger Almenweg leads to more than 100 alpine pastures in the Pongau in stages that can be mixed and matched according to anyone’s needs.

The pleasant mountain air on the mountain, and the forest shade make the 350-kilometre Salzburger Almenweg particularly suitable for hot summer days.

The trail runs generally at an altitude of around 1000 metres, so it is mostly below the tree line. The start and finish points of the 31 stages in the valley are marked with blue gentian signs.

The shortest stage is five kilometres long and can be completed in around 90 minutes. The most demanding stage, 21 kilometres long, takes up to nine hours.

As the name of the trail suggests, 120 alpine pastures are available for enjoyable breaks with beautiful views and offering regional specialities such as home-cured bacon, ‘grey cheese’ or blackberry dumplings.

The Salzburger Almenweg is open from May to the end of October. Most of the valley towns in the Pongau can be reached by public transport. Hiking buses are also available in some areas.
